Students at Parkwood wrapped up their Virtual STEAM Fair and paraprofessional Brandy Fowler distributed certificates and ribbons to the winners last week.

“Those receiving honors will advance to the area-wide science fair, an event that normally takes place at Queeny Park with over 200 schools,” she said.

Due to continued COVID-19 uncertainty, the 2021 Academy of Science - St. Louis Science Fair will be 100% virtual.

Each student had to create an e-fair file that included a PDF version of their project, including their logbook.

Several fourth graders received awards because they worked with art teacher Janel MacLean and Fowler in school on projects.

“Our art studio is basically a MakerSpace and that is a new division in the science fair,” Fowler said. “For the month of February, we worked with those kids on projects that they would submit and that’s why so many fourth graders were honored.”

Students in other grades also chose to get involved in this optional activity.

“They had fun with it this year,” Fowler said. “It was great to see so many get into it and complete some great projects.”

For a student to participate in the St. Louis Science Fair, they must upload their project by April 22. Ribbon placement and awards will be announced on May 4.
